Overview

Spilia Village is an exquisite traditional hotel, with a luxury touch, which highlights the intense charm of a bygone era. It is located in the center of an authentic Cretan village, which has kept intact most of its traditional architectural elements for more than 400 years. The natural surroundings of the hotel are captivating: it is situated on an extended green plain, amidst beautiful citrus orchards and olives groves.

Our philosophy is all about respect for traditional architecture, and its harmonic blend with the unique natural environment of the area. Thus, we have carefully restored and maintained the old buildings that used to be in the exact location of the hotel, in order to save them from the ravages of time and to give them a new life and a new role in today’s village.

The main building of the hotel, which consists of the reception area and the hall where the breakfast is served, is contained in a part of the building that in the past was at first a factory and later an olive oil processing plant. Today, the millstones of the plant are the prominent decoration in the reception.

The hotel consists of 33 stone-built rooms, each of them uniquely decorated. They include Standard and Superior Doubles, Suites, Superior Suites of 2 or 3 bedrooms, Family Rooms, Duplex and Villas.

Location

Spilia village Hotel is located in the center of the beautiful traditional village of Spilia, which means Cave in Greek. The name comes from a cave with great historical importance, the cave of Saint John the Hermit, who stands on top of the village hill.

The village of Spilia is a serene, beautiful place which is immersed in nature – the unique, especial nature that we find in the countryside of Chania and Crete.

The village is strategically located in the center of a green valley, surrounded by olive groves and citrus orchards.

Standard Double Room: Double room 20-25 sq m with queen size double bed, bath, shower or bathtub with Jacuzzi, balcony or common terrace.
Superior Double room: Double room 25-30 sq m with a king size double bed and a sofa bed, bathroom with shower or bathtub with Jacuzzi, balcony or common terrace.
Suite: Suite 40-50 sq m with a bedroom and a living room with two sofa beds, bathroom, bathtub with Jacuzzi and balcony.
Superior Suite: The Superior Suite is 92 sq m, has two bedrooms, a living room with a desk and satellite TV, bathroom with large bathtub with Jacuzzi and a large balcony with nice view.
Three Bedroom Superior Suite: Individual two-storey house 135 sq m, next to the swimming pool with a wooden staircase.
Family Room: This room is ideal for families as it actually consists of two adjoining rooms with a connecting door, a Superior Double Room and a Standard Double Room.
Duplex Superior Room: Duplex room with entrance from a narrow alley, master bedroom with double bed, bathroom with bathtub and Jacuzzi and a small balcony.

TAVERNA HALARA

The traditional Halara tavern, located in a restored building dating from the Venetian period, brings you into contact with the best tastes of the Cretan cuisine. The taverns local style meals are carefully prepared and served in a unique environment, where the summer shades play with the fine architectural lines of the Venetian stone work. Most of the raw ingredients of our dishes are purchased directly from selected farmers in the surrounding villages, and the fresh fruits and vegetables are locally grown. In all of our dishes we use exclusively extra virgin olive oil of the highest quality, which is produced from our own olive groves. The local olive oil of our region has repeatedly won national and international awards for its top quality.

WINE BAR

The area of Spilia Village is known for its fine wine, which is produced from grapes from the local vineyards. The local wine is perfectly accompanied with locally produced cheese and other delicious dishes of finger food. At the beginning and the end of the season, when the weather is still cool for the Cretan standards, the wine bar operates indoors, in the cozy Arkalotrypa(which means Badgers Nest in Greek). During the warm summer months the wine bar moves to the beautiful open-air lavender garden.
